Create Your Marketing Ecosystem

In today’s online marketing environment, with so many venues and social media platforms, how do you decide where to put your efforts? If you try to be everywhere, you can wind up diluting your presence so that it has very little impact. If you are too selective, you may lose out on connecting with potential clients who can’t find you.

The solution is to create a marketing ecosystem. As the name suggests, a marketing ecosystem consists of an integrated, interactive, connected network of marketing components that together create a cohesive and consistent online branded presence for you and your firm across an array of platforms. It includes your website, blog and social media posts (both text and images), as well as your email and e-newsletter correspondence. In addition, to complete your ecosystem, you want to attract supporters, followers and influencers who will help promote you to their networks.

According to Natalie Norcross, founder of A Design Partnership, a public relations and social media communications strategies firm dedicated to helping designers transform their brands and evolve their businesses, influencers often can be more effective than paid advertising because their reach can be extremely broad.  An influencer could be a supplier, retailer, artisan, real estate agent, or other provider in a related business who is willing to promote your services in exchange for your support or endorsement of theirs. Together, you exponentially increase the reach and influence of each other’s marketing ecosystem.

Unlike traditional advertising or promotion, a marketing ecosystem seeks to create and foster relationships with prospective clients, supporters and influencers. To be effective, it requires a well-thought-out strategic marketing plan and needs to offer content that has value for those you want to attract. The content needs to be authentic, authoritative and well branded. Natalie has some great tips to help you get started on her company blog.
