What Is Your Biggest Roadblock?

Is not being able to answer that question really your biggest roadblock and the reason you can’t move forward? Let’s look at 5 possibilities that might help you identify your major roadblock.

Your mindset –
for many people the biggest challenge is often overcoming a self-limiting belief. You are the main representative for your business and if you don’t believe you can do something then you are probably right. Many times what could be a great idea or a great business is buried under the owner’s inability to change their mindset. Take action and turn this kind of thinking around and you will overcome this particular roadblock.

Fear of failure. Often the paralysis of perfectionism can be linked to fear of failure which can then cause procrastination and becomes a major roadblock. Do you want to look back on your life and constantly say “what if”? Take the advice of Theodore Roosevelt: “It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.”

Not having a plan. A favorite quote of mine is from Benjamin Franklin: “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!” Are you so busy trying to do everything as once that you become overwhelmed and nothing gets done? Start creating a “word picture” of your vision for your ideal business – what would it look like. Then list what needs to change for that vision to become a reality. Prioritize that list and focus on building/strengthening a foundation to support the marketing that you will be doing. You now have a good start.

Information overload. You spend time reading, researching online, taking seminars and now you have an abundance of information. Then what? The secret is just start somewhere – yes, as advised above, you need to have a plan but don’t hold back until the plan it perfect. In the words of author Isaac Marion “…wanting change is step one, but step two is taking it.”

Looking for the silver bullet. Constantly searching for the “silver bullet” – that perfect solution to take the vision of your ideal business and turn it into a reality? There are plenty of products offering the perfect solution to create a successful business. I’m sorry to disappoint you but there is no one perfect solution. What you can find, though, is help to get you “unstuck” and to break through and move forward. Entrepreneur Dale Thomas Vaughn had this advice: “Take a Break. Breathe. Look at it from fresh eyes and then ask a mentor if you’re still stuck.”

When asked how to overcome roadblocks, entrepreneur Zech Newman, offered this valuable advice. “I think it is super important to back up and get counsel. Nothing like banging your head against a wall when a wise mentor, coach, or friend can show you an open door.”
