Speaking To Brand Yourself
I just returned from High Point Market and barely saw any new products because I was so busy booking speaking opportunities for next year, and meeting potential sponsors for our Interior Design Summit (July 29 & 30, 2016). I also met with three VIP clients for full day planning sessions, and as I was reflecting on the whirlwind trip, it struck me how important it is for YOU to brand yourself with speaking.
Some of my clients that work with PR firms receive many opportunities to speak at events, and if you’re not booking yourself, consider hiring a PR firm. (We work with a PR firm, too.)
Speaking builds credibility and it teaches you many skills that are useful in your everyday life. You will learn how to speak concisely and create rapport with your audience. Since speaking is one of the skills that few people seek out because they have fears of being in front of an audience, you’ll soon find that you feel more confident because you’ve tamed your fears. Confidence helps you with sales, and of course that helps with your bottom line profits.
A very successful Internet marketer actually has a course she calls “Speak to Sell.”
Find speaking opportunities with your local design resources like tile and plumbing showrooms, charitable and business events at your chamber of commerce. Push yourself to develop the skills. Several great books are available on Amazon, and there are probably speaking coaches in your area.
Push yourself outside of your comfort zone so you can expand it. You can overcome your fears and develop confidence.
Set a goal for one speaking engagement per quarter.
Confidence will come with consistent practice.
